Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State, says his administration will partner with the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to enhance training and retraining of members and ensure adherence to the practice of public relations.

He stated this when he received members of the NIPR State Chapter on a road walk to Government House, on Saturday in Kano.

According to him, the Kano State government is willing to invest and partner with the NIPR National and State chapters to ensure that our new members are trained and retrained to ensure adherence to the practice of the profession.

Yusuf was represented by his Director-General Media and Publicity, Mr Sanusi Bature.

Bature said that when he informed the governor about the visit, he has been trying to see whether he can be here personally.

“But I begged him not to come out because I feel like I am enough representation of him in such a gathering.

“But he asked me to deliver his goodwill message and a few promises to the profession.

“Number one, this road walk is staged in preparation for the world public relations event. He has confirmed full participation of Kano State in this first ever World Public Relations Forum that will be hosted in Abuja, Nigeria.

He said the second promise was that the participation will not only be physical participation of him or his representative, rather, “it is going to be with a gesture”.

Bature added that the governor directed him to ask the state chapter to write to him a request for allocation of land where the NIPR office is going to be built in the future.

Bature said that as the media friendly governor in 2025, the governor has assured the safety of journalists working in the state and the safety of all residents and visitors in Kano State.

He also revealed that next week, the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) would visit Kano to conduct the North-west Regional Media Security Summit at the Government House.

Earlier, Prof. Ya’u Sule Ya’u, a professor of Public Relations at Bayero University Kano (BUK), said the convergence of all practitioners of public relations is coming up in Abuja from November 15 to 21.

He said that the road walk would sensitise Nigerians that the event is coming up next November.

The Chairman of the state chapter of the NIPR, Aliyu Yusuf, thanked the governor for the honour and assured him their continued support to the administration’ policies and programmes aimed at moving the state forward.
