Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has declared that the state is gradually moving toward a one-party system, following recent defections by opposition politicians into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made the assertion during a constituency empowerment programme hosted by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, in Zaria.
According to Governor Sani, the continuous influx of opposition members into the APC is a signal of the party’s growing strength in the state.
“In a few months, Kaduna will effectively become a one-party state, as the APC continues to consolidate its dominance,” the governor stated.
Although the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the main opposition party in the state, its ranks have thinned recently, especially after former governor Nasir El-Rufai joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The event featured the distribution of 117 vehicles, 200 tricycles, and 1,000 motorcycles to constituents, as part of efforts to boost empowerment and mobility in the region.
Commending the Speaker for his developmental strides, Governor Sani noted that Abbas’s intervention projects cut across the education, healthcare, and agriculture sectors. He emphasized that these initiatives were not limited to Zaria alone but extended to other parts of the state, including the Kaduna North Senatorial District.
“The Speaker has remained a dependable ally not just to the Kaduna State Government, but also to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration,” he added.
In his remarks, Speaker Abbas expressed appreciation to his constituents for their continued support, reiterating his commitment to attracting development to the area.
He also recounted how President Tinubu backed his emergence as Speaker despite not having personal ties with him.
“The President’s decision was based on merit, not personal relationship. He supported me purely on the strength of my credentials,” Abbas said.
The Speaker further lauded Governor Sani for being one of his earliest and most consistent supporters, noting that the governor endorsed him even before assuming office.
“At the APC caucus meeting last year, I made a vow that come rain or shine, I will stand by Governor Uba Sani. That commitment still stands,” he said.
Assuring of unflinching loyalty to the governor, Abbas said he and his constituents are firmly behind the governor’s vision for the state.
“By 2027, Governor Uba Sani will see the level of support we are capable of mobilizing for him across Zaria and the entire state,” the Speaker declared.
