The National Assembly Complex is emerging as a strong symbol of Nigeria’s push for local content, blending modern design with indigenous materials and expertise.
Located within the Three Arms Zone alongside the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the Presidential Complex, the facility serves as a key extension of the country’s legislative infrastructure.
Built by Julius Berger Nigeria, the project features twin five-storey office blocks for both chambers of the legislature, designed to enhance efficiency within the National Assembly.
Covering about 70,700 square metres, the complex operates as a self-sufficient facility, complete with its own power and water systems to support uninterrupted activities.
Central to its design is the iconic green dome and ceremonial plaza, with the Senate and House wings stretching outward, reflecting both functionality and national identity.
A defining feature of the project is its reliance on locally sourced materials, including Nigerian granite and a heat-reducing curtain façade. Key components such as aluminium windows were produced by Abumet Nigeria Limited, while interior fittings were handled by local manufacturers.
Experts say the development underscores a growing shift toward homegrown solutions for major infrastructure, aimed at boosting local industries and reducing dependence on imports.
Beyond its structure, the complex remains central to legislative work, representing both democratic governance and Nigeria’s evolving capacity for large-scale development.
