18 Aug 2026

The Jigawa government has approved N3.4 billion for bursary, school and road  infrastructure development projects.

This is contained in a statement on Tuesday in Dutse by Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture.

Musa said the State Executive Council (SEC) ratified the funds during its weekly meeting chaired by Gov. Umar Namadi on Monday

He said that the council approved N892 million for 193 Jigawa indigenes studying Medical and Applied Medical Sciences at the Near East University, Cyprus.

The commissioner said the fund would cover tuition, administrative charges, accommodation, living allowances, resident permits, health insurance and VAT for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Musa said that 99 of the students had completed their 500-level courses, and cleared by the university for internship, while 55 others would complete outstanding courses before commencing their internship.

He said that the SEC applauded Abu-Ubaida Abubakar for recording the highest Culminative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in Civil Engineering since the establishment of the university.

“They should return home upon completion of their programmes to contribute their knowledge and expertise to the development of the state,” he said

According to Musa, the council considers continuing sponsorship of the students as an important investment in the development of human capital, particularly in medical and applied medical sciences.

He said that the SEC, therefore, reaffirmed its commitment to educational advancement of indigent students as well as ensuring responsible utilisation of public resources.

On examinations, Musa said the council approved N1.05 billion to settle registration fees for 40,210 candidates of the 2026 external examinations.

He said that the beneficiaries comprised 32,663 candidates of the National Examinations Council (NECO), 685 candidates of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and 6,862 others for National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS).

The intervention, he said, would ensure that eligible students were not denied participation in the examinations due to outstanding registration fees.

“Education is a fundamental pillar of human capital development,” he said, adding the council was committed to ensure that financial constraints did not hinder students’ academic progress.

The commissioner said that the council further approved N1.09 billion for construction of culverts and drains on Sansani – Ganau – Samai Road and Limintani – Kagadama Road in Miga and Babura Local Government Areas, respectively.

He said that N347 million was allocated for the project in Miga, with a completion period of 16 weeks, while that of Babura would gulp N749 million.

The commissioner said that the projects would improve rainwater evacuation, mitigate flooding as well as protect road infrastructure and properties in the benefiting communities.

Musa said that the SEC further approved N405 million for the renovation of dilapidated classroom blocks across the state under the 2026 Capital Development Programme.

He said the intervention would address deteriorating facilities and improve the learning environment for pupils and students in the state.

The commissioner urged school authorities, communities and other stakeholders to protect education facilities for sustainable development.
