Eyewitnesses described the scene as gory, with bodies littered on the streets and residents scrambling to help the injured.

The attack sparked outrage and prompted security agencies to intensify operations against suspected IPOB/ESN cells in the state.

The police said the latest directive is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks linked to violent attacks in the South-East which has left scores of policemen dead.

A substantial reward, the command reiterated, awaits any person who provides credible information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.
