Insecurity threatens children’s future, NCWS warns

The National President of the National Council of Women’s Societies (NCWS), Princess Edna Azura, has emphasised the need to ensure children grow and learn in safe and supportive environments.

She made the call amid rising insecurity affecting families across the country, emphasising the need to protect children’s well-being and ensure uninterrupted access to education.

Azura told the News reporters on Thursday in Abuja that children should be able to pursue their education without fear, uncertainty or threats to their safety.

She expressed concern over the impact of insecurity on children, warning that prolonged exposure to fear and violence could shape their attitudes negatively and affected their outlook on life and relationships.

“If children continue learning under danger, we are going to breed a generation without pity.

“The next generation will be people full of anger and without love because they will think that is how life is supposed to be,” she said.

The NCWS president underscored the importance of protecting children’s well-being and preserving access to education, describing schools as vital spaces for learning, growth, social interaction and personal development.

“The school environment is far better than learning individually at our various homes,” she said, while acknowledging parents’ concerns and urging sustained efforts to guarantee children’s safety and educational opportunities.

According to her, every child deserves the opportunity to grow in an environment that promotes learning, positive relationships and personal development, regardless of prevailing security challenges in their communities.

Azura also urged stakeholders to support initiatives that advanced child welfare and development, adding that safeguarding children and helping them thrive would foster a more peaceful and prosperous society.
