The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) Kwara chapter, has called on motorists to promptly share vital information, whenever they observed suspicious movements or activities on the roads.

Chairman of the association in the state, Mr  Abdulrahman Onikijipa, made the call in an interview with reporters on Saturday in Ilorin.

According to him, some motorists, particularly commercial drivers, are not vigilant and are reluctant to share vital safety information with fellow drivers and other road users.

He noted that prompt sharing of information among road users would enhance the safety of motorists and passengers.

“It is important to share vital information with other road users while on the road.

”If you observe any suspicious movement, quickly alert other road users, so they can take necessary precautions or use an alternative route.

“Report suspicious activities promptly to the appropriate security authorities or safety committee. Do not withhold information that could prevent other road users from falling victim.

“Security awareness is important, but information sharing is also key to ensuring safety,” he said.

The chairman said the association was strengthening collaboration with security agencies and community leaders along major routes, to improve information flow and facilitate rapid response to security threats.

He also disclosed that the association regularly sensitised its members on security awareness, early warning signs and the importance of promptly sharing intelligence.

“We have intensified sensitisation across our branches through regular meetings, drivers’ briefings and union platforms, to ensure that safety is prioritised.

“We are encouraging route monitoring, proper documentation of trips and the use of trusted parks and terminals to enhance safety,” he said.

Onikijipa however, advised drivers to prioritise safety over profit, adding that no trip was worth risking a life.
