The Ekiti State Government has embarked on intensified surveillance and security operations along all border points and adjoining communities.
This initiative, announced by Governor Biodun Oyebanji comes amid escalating insecurity challenges across neighboring states and the country at large.
Governor Oyebanji, speaking after a strategic security meeting with heads of various security agencies in Ikogosi-Ekiti, revealed that he cut short his official leave to spearhead efforts in reinforcing intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration within the state.
“Protecting the lives and property of Ekiti residents remains our highest priority,” he stated, emphasizing that all necessary measures are underway to prevent the state from becoming a sanctuary for criminal activities.
At the meeting, new protocols aimed at strengthening the existing security architecture were adopted, with a focus on enhancing the effectiveness and responsiveness of security agencies operating in the border communities.
The Governor also commended the professionalism and dedication of security operatives in maintaining peace across Ekiti.
“I am satisfied with the reports from our security chiefs. Ekiti remains peaceful and on track, but we must remain vigilant,” Oyebanji said.
He also urged residents to actively participate by providing timely and credible intelligence, underscoring the importance of community involvement.
Also speaking, Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd), echoed Governor Oyebanji’s sentiments, praising the Governor’s proactive stance.
“Governor Oyebanji’s swift decision to cut short his leave to engage with security agencies highlights his resolve to safeguard Ekiti’s people and property,” he remarked.
General Ogundana further highlighted that such proactive strategies have earned Ekiti the reputation of being one of Nigeria’s safest states.
He assured that ongoing collaborative efforts with security agencies are geared toward sustaining this standard.
The security clampdown is expected to significantly reduce vulnerabilities along Ekiti’s borders, assuring residents and investors alike of continued stability in the state amidst a challenging security landscape nationwide.
