The Chief Operating Officer (COO), Niger Gas, Enugu, Mr Amos Egesi, has assured hospitals in Enugu State that the company was ready to meet all their demands for oxygen within the shortest possible time.
Egesi said this on Tuesday while conducting members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu, round the facility.
News men reports that the journalists were in the facility as part of the state government’s organised tour of projects being executed by Gov. Peter Mbah’s administration.
“Currently, we produce about 80 cylinders in a day; by the time we begin to produce at 100 per cent full capacity, we will be producing not less than 400 cylinders every day.
“With that all the hospital oxygen demands we have in the state will be met by Niger gas,” Egesi said.
The also COO said that the company started full operations four months ago, adding that traders have started coming from as far as Onitsha to book for the company’s products.
He explained that the company produced natural oxygen, medical oxygen as well as Accetelyn for welding.
He commended the state government for the vision to revive the gas company which became moribund since the eighties.
According to him, jobs are being created by the company, while the existence of the company has given life to the immediate community.
“This area has become a beehive of activities since we began operations as people now buy landed property, build houses and live around the environment.
“Economic activities have also increased due to the company’s operations.”
NAN recalls that the company is one of the projects established by the late Michael Okpara of the defunct Eastern region government, that are currently being revived by the state government.
