The Imole Campaign Council on Saturday alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC), is plotting to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), into announcing final results of the Osun governorship election while vote counting is still ongoing.
The statement issued in Osogbo by the spokesperson of the Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq, described the alleged move as an attempt to subvert the will of the people.
“This act of desperation must not happen. We call on all lovers of democracy at home and abroad to monitor the election process to the very end and stop electoral saboteurs from rigging this election and devouring the democratic will of the people of Osun State,” Olajengbesi said.
The Council urged INEC to reject the alleged pressure and uphold electoral integrity, fairness and democratic values. “Due process must be followed,” the statement added.
The Council also said Saturday’s election showed strong support for Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party.
“The Imole Campaign Council notes that Saturday’s election has shown that Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is popular among the good people of Osun State. With the impressive turnout of voters for Governor Adeleke, the Imole Campaign Council is confident that Governor Adeleke will be re-elected,” Olajengbesi stated.
As of the time of filing this report, INEC officials were still collating results from polling units across the state. The Commission had not responded to the allegations.
Election observers deployed to the state said voting was largely peaceful with a high turnout recorded in several local government areas.
