An aggrieved party faithful of the Action Alliance (AA) political party, Mr. Johnson Olumo, has made a public statement threatening to prosecute some individuals, including a bet agent, for allegedly masterminding the misappropriation of funds set aside for the party’s political campaign ahead of the Imo State gubernatorial election in November 2023.
Speaking to the press at the Dan Anyiam Stadium last Saturday, Mr. Olumo expressed his grief and disappointment over how his plan to energetically support the AA party and make huge funds available to boost a massive campaign was shattered.
He lamented the low publicity for his principal and the scant turnout of supporters at the stadium, describing it as an indication that there might be a low voter turnout in favour of the AA party on election day.
Olumo therefore blamed the misfortune on a Bet9ja agent in Lagos identified as Mr. Yusuf Qudus, who allegedly connived with his personal assistant to ground millions of naira meant for funding a major campaign for Engineer LKJ Ogunewe. He alleged that the funds were diverted into betting games, which eventually led to huge losses despite assurances that the money would be “tremendously boosted.”
“I was promised by Qudus and his assistant, Afeez, that the millions of naira I deposited at their game shop would be tremendously multiplied, which I believed would be channelled towards achieving a massive campaign rally for our AA party and amiable principal.
“I have failed my party and I have failed my principal LKJ Ogunewe. Therefore, if we lose woefully in this coming election, I will not let Qudus, the Bet Agent, go scot-free,” Olumo threatened.
The matter between Olumo and the Bet Agent has reportedly been lodged at the Ikeja Police Division, where investigations are ongoing to ensure there is no violence and peace is maintained ahead of the off-cycle governorship elections scheduled for November 11, 2023, in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa States.
