Nigeria has taken over the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24) from Argentina, marking a significant milestone in its global economic diplomacy.

The country will formally assume office on November 1, 2025, and unveil its Work Programme after due consultations with member states.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, who represented the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening the G-24’s role as a key platform for inclusive dialogue and global financial reform.

“Our focus will be on sustaining momentum in areas that matter most to our members. We look forward to working with members to advance our shared mission of inclusive growth, equity, and global stability,” Cardoso said.

He added that under Nigeria’s leadership, the G-24 will remain steadfast in advocating for the interests of emerging and developing economies, particularly in the face of global economic challenges.

“We are determined to ensure that the G-24 continues to be a formidable platform for representing the common interests of emerging and developing economies,” he stated.

The G-24, established in 1971, serves as a forum for developing countries to coordinate their positions on international monetary and financial issues, ensuring their voices are effectively represented in global decision-making platforms such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
