The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has ordered the deployment of security personnel nationwide to ensure a safe and secure environment during the Easter celebrations.

The directive was issued to Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The IGP also extended felicitations to Christians across the country as they observe Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday, marking the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the security measures include the strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operatives, as well as the mobilisation of the Special Intervention Squad and conventional police personnel.

The statement added that security presence will be strengthened at worship centres, critical infrastructure, highways, motor parks, and recreational centres to ensure peaceful celebrations.

“The IGP has also ordered heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols, enhanced surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties aimed at deterring criminal activities and ensuring swift response to emerging threats,” the statement said.

Disu urged members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

He also provided emergency contact lines: 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785, and 09133333786.
