IGP Disu creates New Media unit, appoints new Force Spokesperson

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu has created a New Media Office within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) structure.

This was announced in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday by the outgoing Force Spokesperson, Ag.ACP Benjamin Hundeyin.

According to the statement DCP Anthony Okon Placid will succeed Ag.ACP Benjamin Hundeyin.

DCP Placid is a seasoned administrator and diplomat whose career spans nearly three decades of domestic and international service.

Born in 1970 in Akwa Ibom State, DCP Placid possesses a multidisciplinary academic background, including degrees in Geography, Law and Diplomacy, and Law. His professional trajectory, which began in 1996, includes significant roles such as Public Relations Officer for Adamawa State and high-level international peacekeeping positions with the African Union and the United Nations in Sudan.

Notably, he is a 2025 graduate of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and an expert in International Humanitarian Law.

Similarly the New Media Office will be headed by CSP Ali Giwa. This specialized unit will focus on real-time communication and digital engagement, reflecting a shift toward contemporary public relations.
