The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers nationwide in a move to boost morale, reward diligence and strengthen institutional capacity in the police force.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the exercise, which cuts across Commands and Formations nationwide, involves promotion of 165 sergeants to the rank of inspector, 73 corporals to sergeant, and 17,714 constables to corporal.

The Police boss said timely promotion remains a critical component of the Force’s human resource management strategy and a key instrument for motivating officers to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities.

“The advancement of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current Police leadership to merit, career progression, and institutional development,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying.

Disu congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to view their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, and discipline.

He charged the beneficiaries to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and continue to discharge their duties with integrity, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law.

“The newly promoted officers should see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, discipline, and dedication to service,” the IGP said.

The Force reiterated its commitment to promoting excellence, rewarding hard work and strengthening institutional capacity in line with global best practices in policing.

The latest promotion exercise is one of the largest for junior-ranking personnel in recent years and comes amid ongoing reforms aimed at improving welfare, career development, and operational effectiveness within the Nigeria Police Force.
