The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Olatunji Rilwan Disu has confirmed his participation in attending the opening ceremony of the forthcoming International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in Maiduguri.

The IGP is expected to grace the occasion as Guest of Honour and deliver an address at the opening ceremony.

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu visited the IGP in Abuja on Tuesday where he made several requests to the Police Chief in support of the conference.

These included a request for his presence at the opening ceremony, sponsorship of some components of the conference and sponsorship of Engineers serving in the Nigeria Police Force to attend the event.

The NSE President also sought the goodwill of the IGP in drafting officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to provide adequate security for a successful conference.

In addition, he requested the elevation of NSE members in the Force who have attained the Society’s Fellowship cadre.

Responding, Mr. Disu accepted the proposals and acknowledged the critical role of engineering and the NSE in the daily survival and development of the country.

He encouraged the NSE President to continue to keep him, as well as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Borno State Command, abreast of developments and areas where their intervention would be required.

The IGP further directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration to look into the NSE’s request concerning officers who are Fellows of the Society.

Mr. Disu also requested the NSE President to consider including police engineers in the Society’s capacity-building programmes.
