Igbo community in Lagos celebrates late Eze Ndigbo in grand cultural festival

It was a spectacle of glitz, glamour, and cultural elegance in Lagos as the Igbo community rolled out the drums to celebrate one of its most distinguished leaders, late Eze H. N. Ohazulike, OON, the Eze Ndigbo of Lagos State.

The grand event, which attracted prominent traditional rulers, business moguls, politicians, and cultural enthusiasts, was held amid colourful displays of Igbo heritage and unity. It showcased the richness of Igbo culture through music, dance, and traditional fashion that reflected the people’s deep rooted identity and communal pride.

The celebration was not only a tribute to late Eze Ohazulike’s enduring leadership but also a reflection of the unity and progressive spirit of the Igbo people residing in Lagos.

In his remarks, Eze Dr. Chukwudi Boniface Okpara, lauded Eze Ohazulike as one who has been at the forefront of promoting harmony among various ethnic groups in Lagos, expressed gratitude to his people for their support and solidarity over the years.

In his words, “Our culture remains our pride, and as Igbos living in Lagos, it is our responsibility to uphold peace, integrity, and hard work,” he said. “Lagos is our home, and together we must continue to contribute meaningfully to its development while keeping our heritage alive.”

Dignitaries who graced the occasion commended late Eze Ohazulike’s leadership style, describing him as a unifying figure who has strengthened the bond between the Igbo community and the Lagos State government.

Speaking on behalf of the guests, Eze Uchedimba  the Eze ndigbo of Ikeja commends the late Eze’s efforts in promoting cultural preservation and peaceful coexistence, noting that his reign has been marked by inclusiveness and commitment to youth empowerment.

The event also featured breaking of the kolanut by the prince to further strengthening unity and and invoke development and cultural advancement. Traditional dances, masquerade performances, and musical renditions enlivened the atmosphere, as attendees adorned themselves in rich cultural attires symbolising the dignity and pride of the Igbo nation.

The ceremony concluded with prayers and blessings for peace, progress, and continued unity among the Igbo people in Lagos and across Nigeria.
