Ife East LG presents ₦7.09bn budget for 2026

The Chairman of Ife East Local Government, Hon. Safiriyu Akiwale Akinwole, presented the 2026 proposed budget estimate to the Legislative Council and stakeholders on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

Christened the “Renew Hope Budget,” Hon. Akinwole described 2026 as a significant year for the council, noting that the fiscal plan is designed to revitalize the local economy and improve service delivery.

According to the Chairman, the total expected revenue for the 2026 fiscal year is pegged at ₦7,095,924,648.

This figure comprises ₦6,005,400,250 from statutory allocation and ₦1,090,524,398 from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

On the expenditure side, the proposed recurrent expenditure is estimated at ₦4,622,924,648. A breakdown of this figure includes ₦3,161,204,448 for personnel costs, ₦41,720,200 for recurrent debt obligations, and ₦1.42 billion for other non-debt recurrent expenses. Capital expenditure is projected at ₦2.473 billion, bringing the total proposed expenditure to ₦7,095,924,648, effectively balancing the budget against projected revenue.

Hon. Akinwole expressed optimism that the 2026 appropriation would strengthen the economy of Ife East. He assured the Legislative Council and residents of effective implementation and called for the support and cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure the budget’s success.

The presentation was attended by key government officials, including the Leader of the House, Hon. Waheed Abolowotan; Vice Chairman, Mrs. Agnes Oladunjoye; Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Kunle Ojuade; and the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Hon. David Awotipe.

Also present were councillors representing various wards, supervisory councillors, special advisers, executive assistants, civil society representatives, and members of the press.
