The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has remanded a 30-year-old man, Usman Adamu, in Agodi Correctional Facility over allegations of terrorism and kidnapping.
Adamu, who pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against him by the Department of State Services (DSS), was ordered by Justice Nkeonye Maha to remain in custody pending the next hearing.
The judge also directed prison authorities to ensure the defendant receives appropriate medical care at the prison clinic and, if necessary, be referred to the University College Hospital (UCH) as a government patient.
The matter was adjourned until 25 July for hearing.
During the proceedings, defence counsel, Mr Bukola Omotoso, raised concerns about the deteriorating health of his client while in DSS custody.
Prosecuting counsel, Mr T.A. Nurudeen, informed the court that Adamu, a native of Ilorin South in Kwara State, was allegedly a member of a terrorist syndicate operating in the Awe area of Afijio Local Government, Oyo State.
According to Nurudeen, Adamu and his accomplices abducted one Aminu Mohammed on 15 December 2024, with the intention of demanding a ransom.
The alleged offences are in breach of Sections 24A and 30A of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
