I remain authentic chairman of NDC in Enugu State – Obetta

Mr Ibuchukwu Obetta, says he remains the authentic Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Enugu State chapter.

Obetta confirmed this in an interview with newsmen, on Monday in Enugu.

“I am the chairman of NDC in Enugu State. All issues have been resolved during our National Convention in Abuja,” he said.

He disclosed that the party had concluded its ward, local government and state congresses adding that after the congresses, the NDC in the state was now ready for its primaries set to take place before the end of May.

The chairman said that many aspirants had indicated interest to contest for various positions on the platform of the party.

“We have four persons that have indicated their interest for gubernatorial election in 2027 in the state.

“I cannot disclose their names now for security reasons until after the primaries which will hold at the interval of this month,” he said.

Obetta added that there were also four aspirants for the Enugu North senatorial zone bye election slated for June 20, 2026.

“Now, we have four aspirants who have come out for the Enugu North senatorial district.

“We are discussing with them to find out their mission for the senatorial district,” he said.

He also disclosed that many aspirants from the Enugu West senatorial zone had also indicated interest for various positions including house of assembly, house of representatives, and the Senate.

He described the NDC as a “beautiful bride” in Nigerian politics following the entrance of Mr Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to the party as well as the successful completion of its convention.

NAN reports that the state chapter of the party was involved in minor leadership crises shortly before their national convention, where a faction led by one Johnpaul Ani claimed to be the authentic state chairman.
