Freddie Freeman became a subject of huge concern during the LA Dodgers’ 4–2 win against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday when he fell frighteningly down the stairs of the visiting team’s dugout while attempting to catch a foul ball in the top of the eighth inning.
Staff from both sides rushed to his aid after the accident, and Freeman exited the game. Naturally, fans anxiously awaited updates on the first baseman’s health once the game ended.
Initial reports out of the Dodgers’ camp are positive. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters that the team dodged a bullet after an incident that could have had a catastrophic outcome.
Soon after the game, Freeman also spoke to the press himself, offering an update on his condition.
“I didn’t hit my head, so that was the key part there. I am sore, kneecaps are sore, shoulder sore, hand sore, wrist sore.”
“I mean, I fell. I’m in good spirits. I’ve already cold tubbed, done everything I needed to do to put myself in a position to hopefully be able to play tomorrow. I was already going to have Friday off, so we’ll see how I feel when I wake up tomorrow. Right now, I’m just sore,” Freeman said.
Speaking to MLB.com’s Sonja Chen after Wednesday’s win against the Kansas City Royals, Freddie Freeman offered his account of the moments leading up to his dangerous fall into the opposing team‘s dugout.
“I went to lean, like I was going to lean against the rail to catch the ball and obviously there was no rail. Luckily, I was tall, so I missed everything else,” Freeman said with a smile.
In addition to reports claiming Freeman managed to avoid any serious injury, seeing the infielder smiling and in good spirits during his interaction with the press will certainly be extremely reassuring for Dodgers fans.
