How gunmen killed my parents, made me a target

An indigene of Anambra State, Chibuike Justin Chukwuleta, has recounted how gunmen killed his parents, lamenting that his life has been under threat ever since the incident.

He said many years after gunmen killed his parents during an attack on their family home in Ihiala, Anambra State, they have been after his life.

Chukwuleta said the attackers stormed the residence on January demanding to know his whereabouts before opening fire. He claimed he escaped through the backyard, while his parents were killed and his two sisters spared.

According to him, the gunmen left a message that he should use the money meant for his ransom to bury his parents.

He further alleged that he narrowly escaped another attack in Ihiala in October after fleeing into a nearby forest while visiting relatives.

The Nigerian also claimed he received fresh threats through WhatsApp messages in May 2026 from unidentified persons demanding money and warning that his family and property remained vulnerable.

Chukwuleta said the persistent threats have forced him to stay away from his hometown despite owning property there. He called for stronger security measures to protect lives and property amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the country.
