The House of Representatives has adopted the report on the proposed creation of state police and approved 18 constitutional amendment clauses aimed at strengthening governance and security in the country.

The decision was taken during Thursday’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

Lawmakers considered and approved the clauses as part of wider constitutional amendment efforts focused on improving security structures, governance, and institutional efficiency across Nigeria.

The move marks a key step in ongoing discussions around restructuring the country’s policing system, with the proposed state police expected to operate alongside existing federal security agencies if eventually established.

The approved recommendations are part of a broader review process of the 1999 Constitution, which has seen several amendment proposals debated by the National Assembly.

Further legislative actions are expected as the constitutional review process continues.
