Gunmen kidnap Dangote Cement driver nicknamed Baba Olowo

Gunmen have abducted a senior driver with Dangote Cement Company, Ibese, Usman Umar, popularly known as Baba Olowo, in Ajibawo village near Ijako-Orile, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The incident was said to have happened around midnight on Wednesday, when Umar was returning from work and had just alighted from a motorcycle in front of his residence.

Sources familiar with the matter said about three armed men ambushed him and dragged him into a nearby bush.

The attackers were reportedly fired several shots into the air to scare residents and stop any attempt to rescue the victim.

Witnesses said the kidnappers did not use a vehicle, but fled on foot with Umar through the bush after abducting him.

Umar, who works as a senior driver with Dangote Cement Company, Ibese, was reportedly seized shortly after arriving home from work.

The latest abduction has deepened concerns over the security situation in parts of Yewa North, which has seen cases of kidnapping and other criminal activity.

Security operatives have reportedly begun a search operation to locate the victim and arrest the perpetrators.

As of the time of filing this report, Umar’s whereabouts remained unknown. It was also unclear whether the abductors had contacted his family or demanded ransom.

The incident is expected to increase calls for stronger security patrols and intelligence-led operations in Ijako-Orile, Ajibawo and other vulnerable communities across Yewa North.

Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of press time.
