Gunmen issue death threats following failed kidnap attempt in Benin City

6 Feb 2026

The security situation in the Agbomoba Community remains tense following a botched abduction attempt on two brothers, Mr. Osifo Osasenaga Best and Mr. Osayomore Osifo, by suspected armed herdsmen.

The incident occurred on October 13, 2025, near the brothers’ residence along Sapele Road.

The assailants intercepted the duo while they were driving, but the kidnapping was thwarted by the swift intervention of the local community vigilante group.

While the brothers managed to escape, the encounter left Mr. Osayomore Osifo in critical condition; he is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.

The threat to the family has intensified in the days following the attack. Reports indicate that the suspects returned to the family home to deliver a chilling handwritten note, which warned the brothers that they would be killed whenever they are found.

This fresh threat has forced both men to abandon their residence and seek safety in an undisclosed location.

The Nigeria Police Force has officially launched an investigation into the attempted kidnapping and the subsequent death threats, with efforts underway to track the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, residents of the Agbomoba Community have issued an urgent plea to the state government and security agencies for increased patrols along Sapele Road to restore public safety and prevent further incursions by armed groups.
