Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his regret over the dismissal of Liam Rosenior at Chelsea.
The London club relieved Rosenior of his duties on April 22 after a difficult period that saw the team suffer five consecutive league losses without scoring a single goal.
Speaking after City’s 1-0 victory over Burnley, Guardiola praised Rosenior’s tactical capabilities and suggested he belongs at the top tier of English football.
The Spaniard used the moment to contrast the volatility at Stamford Bridge with the stability he has enjoyed at the Etihad Stadium for the past decade.
“I’m so sorry, I’m pretty sure he’s a manager for that level,” Guardiola remarked. “Always when this happens, I think about how lucky I am being in the club where I am. I picked the right club ten years ago, with an incredible hierarchy and trust.”
Rosenior’s tenure lasted just 106 days, during which he secured 11 victories in 23 matches across all competitions.
While Calum McFarlane has stepped in as interim head coach to finish the season, speculation regarding a permanent replacement is already intensifying.
Reports suggest that Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola has emerged as a primary candidate for the role.
Iraola recently confirmed he will depart the Cherries at the end of the 2025-26 campaign, potentially clearing the path for a move to London this summer.
Other high-profile names linked to the position include Julian Nagelsmann and Cesc Fabregas.
