Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) has released its audited results for the half year ended June 30, 2025, crossing the ₦1 trillion gross earnings milestone while sustaining its interim dividend payout of ₦1.00 per share, despite a sharp profit decline.

The group posted a pre-tax profit of ₦601 billion, compared with ₦1 trillion in the same period of 2024. Profit after tax fell to ₦449.01 billion from ₦905.57 billion a year earlier. Shareholders on the Register of Members as of October 7, 2025, will qualify for the interim dividend.

Strong topline performance

GTCO’s resilience was underpinned by a 71 per cent surge in interest income to ₦812.36 billion, which contributed 76 per cent of gross earnings, up from 44 per cent in H1 2024.

Income from investments in securities contributed 35 per cent of total earnings, overtaking the 27 per cent share from loans and advances. Loan income rose 22 per cent year-on-year to ₦299.63 billion, while securities-related income jumped 44 per cent to ₦375 billion.

GTCO also generated ₦256 billion in interest income from outside Nigeria, reflecting its growing regional footprint.

On the expense side, interest costs rose 43 per cent to ₦154 billion, largely due to higher customer deposit costs. However, these accounted for just 18 per cent of total interest income, allowing the group to maintain healthy margins.

Net interest income climbed 29 per cent to ₦632.24 billion, even as loan impairment charges edged up to ₦54.97 billion from ₦47.41 billion in H1 2024. Consequently, net interest income after provisions rose nearly 30 per cent to ₦577.67 billion.
