Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has announced a significant milestone in the state’s aviation strategy, securing approval from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to install cargo facilities at the Dutse International Airport.
The move is intended to pivot the facility toward becoming a major regional cargo hub.
The Governor shared the update during a routine facility inspection and calibration mission conducted by a technical team from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
During the interaction, Namadi emphasized that his administration is committed to ensuring the airport operates in strict accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
“Today is an important day in our efforts to ensure that all airport facilities in Jigawa State operate in accordance with best practices,” the Governor stated.
He confirmed that the discussions with FAAN reached a successful conclusion, paving the way for the immediate installation of specialized cargo infrastructure.
The NAMA technical team lead confirmed that their mission in Dutse was specifically focused on checking navigational aids to guarantee safety and compliance.
Governor Namadi expressed pride in the airport’s current standing, describing it as one of the best in Nigeria, and pledged that the state would continue to invest in the necessary technology to maintain high operational standards as it prepares for the full launch of cargo operations.
