President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday received Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and other chieftains of the Accord Party at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following the governor’s victory in last Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke, who secured victory in the election, visited the President alongside other party leaders to formally present his Certificate of Return.
The visit came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the keenly contested election, giving him another mandate to lead Osun State.
During the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Adeleke presented his Certificate of Return to President Tinubu as part of the activities following his electoral victory.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the President and the governor to exchange views on the outcome of the election and the political developments in Osun State.
A source familiar with the visit said the presentation of the certificate was significant as it formally recognised Adeleke’s victory and the mandate given to him by the electorate.
“Adeleke also presented his Certificate of Return during his visit to the President,” the source said.
The governor was accompanied by other Accord Party chieftains who joined him at the Presidential Villa to mark the victory and pay a courtesy visit to the President.
The development is coming at a time when attention has shifted to the next phase of governance in Osun State, with Adeleke expected to consolidate on his first-term administration and continue with his programmes for the people.
Speaking after the visit, one of the party chieftains described the meeting as a positive development, saying, “We are here to appreciate the President and to recognise the importance of working together for the progress of Osun State.”
