Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has berated the Osun State Commissioner of Police over what he described as unbridled brigandage across the state.

The Governor stated that the situation could have been instantly curtailed if the police authorities had acted swiftly and decisively at the early stage of the crisis.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, Governor Adeleke said the Commissioner of Police should have acted promptly to checkmate political charlatans and prevent their lawlessness.

He noted that the Osun Security Council has adopted several strategies to nip the recent upsurge of political violence in the bud.

These strategies were adopted at a marathon meeting of the council held yesterday under the chairmanship of Governor Ademola Adeleke, who was represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi.

As political brigandage and vandalism continue to take center stage in Osogbo and other parts of Osun State, particularly in the early hours of Monday, May 11, by hoodlums alleged to be sponsored by the Osun State chapter of the APC, Governor Adeleke presided over a high-powered Emergency State Security Council meeting at the Governor’s Office.

The meeting brought together top security commanders from the Army, Air Force, Police, DSS, Immigration, and NDLEA to underscore the urgency of the situation.

Members of the State Executive Council were also present at the emergency security meeting, which lasted several hours to discuss the way forward as political activities gather momentum for the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

Addressing the security echelons, Governor Adeleke condemned the general state of lawlessness and brigandage by alleged APC thugs who carried out the defacement and destruction of his billboards and those of his political party, Accord, during coordinated attacks. Governor Adeleke called for calm and the cooperation of all security chiefs and stakeholders in the state.

He specifically condemned the actions of the alleged thugs who were reported to be fully armed and shooting sporadically at the State Secretariat entrance gate for several hours.

The Police defended their actions during the meeting regarding the unfortunate operation and promised to hold a roundtable discussion with the chairmen of all political parties in the state very soon.
