Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has invited Chinese investors to explore investment opportunities in the state, highlighting its strategic position and vibrant commercial potential.
During a meeting with a Chinese delegation led by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dunhai Yu, at the Kano State Government House on Thursday, Governor Yusuf underlined the state’s attractiveness to foreign investors, particularly those from China. He noted that Kano’s rich economic landscape, access to markets, and availability of raw materials make it a prime location for investment.
“Kano is a historic economic hub in sub-Saharan Africa, offering a favourable business environment for investors, especially our partners from China,” the governor stated.
Commending China’s advancements in infrastructure, banking, insurance, and industrialisation, he acknowledged the strong ties between China and Nigeria. He further highlighted that over 55% of ongoing infrastructure projects in Kano were being undertaken by Chinese companies, including the construction of five major flyovers.
Governor Yusuf also announced plans to launch a comprehensive five-year multisectoral investment strategy (2025-2029) to attract further Chinese investment across key industries.
Additionally, discussions covered potential collaborations in education between Kano and China. Ambassador Dunhai Yu, in response, reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening economic and cultural ties with Kano. He also disclosed ongoing efforts to channel investments from Shandong Province, one of China’s major economic regions, into Kano’s agriculture and infrastructure sectors.
Governor Yusuf reassured the delegation of his administration’s dedication to fostering a business-friendly climate, encouraging more Chinese investments that will drive economic expansion and enhance bilateral relations between Nigeria and China.
