…Recruits 300 community animal health workers

In an effort to reposition the Livestock Sector in Jigawa, the state government has announced recruitment of 300 community animal health workers in order to improve access to veterinary services and ensure the health and productivity of livestock production.
Governor Umar Namadi unveiled the new strategy during a stakeholders’ consultative workshop on livestock reform held at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse.
Governor Namadi emphasized that the state’s efforts include the recruitment and training of 300 Community Animal Health Workers, who will operate 300 Mobile Veterinary Clinics across the state.
“We have vaccinated over 560,000 animals, protecting them from diseases that could otherwise hinder their productivity,” Governor Namadi stated.
Addressing the gathering, the governor expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, led by Prof. Attahiru Muhammed Jega OFR, noting that their contributions will help shape the future of livestock development in Nigeria.
“This collaboration is crucial for transforming the Livestock Sector into a major contributor to National Food & Nutrition Security and diversifying the economy,” he said.
Namadi also extended his warm welcome to the stakeholders from within and outside the state, stressing the significance of the consultative workshop in advancing the reform agenda.
“Your presence here today underscores the collective commitment to reshaping the livestock sector and enhancing its role as a key driver of economic prosperity in Jigawa and Nigeria as a whole.
“Livestock and Animal Husbandry is not just an economic activity in Jigawa; it is a way of life for many families. This sector holds tremendous potential to drive growth and improve livelihoods,” he said.
The governor also reassured participants that the government is committed to a comprehensive Livestock Master Plan, which will be implemented through a robust 12-point agenda aimed at fostering sustainable development in the sector.
“As we move forward, I urge all stakeholders to actively engage with the policy discussions that will unfold here today. Together, we will lay the foundation for a thriving livestock sector that will benefit both our state and the nation,” he added.
