Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has released N500 million as counterpart funding to support the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) under a joint intervention with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli.
According to the statement, the released funds will scale up the state’s response to Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and improve treatment access for vulnerable children across all LGAs.
The statement reads partly: “The N500 million approved by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, serves as a matching fund for the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in partnership with UNICEF.
“The intervention, implemented through the Child Nutrition Fund, is expected to significantly expand access to treatment for children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition across the state.
“Gombe State remains one of the few in the country that consistently meets its nutrition counterpart funding obligations, reflecting the administration’s strong commitment to child survival and public health.
“Governor Inuwa Yahaya maintains that no child in Gombe should suffer or lose their life to a condition that is both preventable and treatable.”
Further highlighting the state’s long-standing commitment, the statement noted that Gombe has built a solid reputation for prioritising the welfare of children under five through sustained funding for critical health and nutrition programmes.
RUTF, a nutrient-dense therapeutic paste used globally in the treatment of severe acute malnutrition, enables affected children to recover quickly and safely, especially in hard-to-reach communities with limited access to health facilities.
The administration’s continued investment in RUTF and complementary interventions aligns with the Governor’s broader strategy to reduce child mortality, strengthen early childhood development, and build a healthier future generation in the state.
Governor Yahaya, the statement added, has consistently demonstrated willingness to fund impactful initiatives that protect the most vulnerable, reaffirming the government’s resolve to place child health at the centre of its development agenda.
