…terminates non-performing contracts for similar projects across the state
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned a well-equipped ultra-modern primary health centre for the people of Nduo Eduo, Eket Local Government Area.
While commissioning the centre on Monday, December 29, 2025, the Governor called on community leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that the facility is properly maintained for the general good of the people.
“Please, come together to protect this facility. It is for your families and community. Patronize it; make the best use of it. Let it not be vandalized because of lack of concern and care.”
Governor Eno said the health centre was one of the projects under the one project per local government initiative, in fulfilment of an electioneering promise he made to the late Elder Ekwo and the people of Nduo Eduo. He commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, and others who facilitated the project for their commitment in ensuring its timely delivery.
He decried the inability of some local government areas to complete the first phase of the one project per local government initiative and vowed to terminate the contracts if they failed to live up to expectations.
According to the Governor, “Nine local government areas are yet to have their allocated projects completed, two and a half years into this administration.” He therefore directed that the contracts for the affected projects be terminated for now.
The Governor frowned at the situation where people bid for and sign project contracts, only to fail to complete them according to specifications and later request cost variations.
He used the opportunity to warn the affected contractors and their guarantors that if they are found wanting after a project financial audit, they would be brought to book to account for the funds released to them.
Governor Eno also enjoined the people of Eket to allow peace to reign by not disrupting the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which has been mapped to pass through Stubbs Creek.
In an overview of the project, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. John, commended the Governor for his commitment and exemplary leadership by defying the Christmas break to commission the people-oriented project for the benefit of the community.
He described the facility as a unique Christmas gift to the people of Eket, adding that it is fully equipped and designed with modern facilities to provide quality healthcare services.
He listed the available facilities to include a resuscitation machine, a functional laboratory fully equipped with an auto-haematology analyser, an accident and emergency unit, an immunization room, a nutrition centre, a vaccine store, and staff quarters, all fully staffed and powered by a solar system.
He called on political elites to maximize Governor Eno’s investment in the health sector, including the ARISE Health Insurance Scheme, and appealed to the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area to provide adequate security to safeguard the facility against vandals.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Akaninyene Tommy, appreciated Governor Eno for specially blessing the area with quality projects of great significance to the grassroots.
In their separate goodwill messages, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, Chief Assam Assam, Prof. Maurice Ekwo, Prof. Etie Ben, Dr. Edikan Ackley, and the Chairman of the National Association of Government General and Dental Practitioners, eulogized the Governor for his exceptional impact on the state’s health sector.
At the event were the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, the Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr. Aniefiok Johnson, members of the State Executive Council, local government chairmen, and other government functionaries.
