The Nigerian literary and film communities converged in grand style at the Alliance Française de Lagos, Mike Adenuga Centre, Ikoyi, for the official unveiling of A Trip in Motion, the latest book by acclaimed poet and educator Godson Osarenren. The event, which celebrated the life and artistic journey of legendary filmmaker Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, drew an impressive audience of Nollywood stars, veterans, industry elites, and eminent filmmakers.
A Trip in Motion is a professional biography that chronicles the remarkable rise of Imasuen—from grassroots theatre to the global screen—highlighting his struggles, triumphs, creative philosophy and contributions to the evolution of Nigerian cinema.
Godson Osarenren, widely recognized as a prominent Nigerian ekphrastic poet, is the founder of Naija Poetry Fest and author of several acclaimed works including The Broken Cross, Bush Radio, and Stanzas from the Bronze Capital. He is also the creative force behind literary initiatives such as Battle of Stanzas, Naija Poetry Fest, and Poetic Rendezvous, which have helped nurture a new wave of Nigerian literary voices.
The unveiling ceremony was nothing short of spectacular. In attendance were celebrated Nollywood personalities, film critics, cultural custodians and emerging creatives, all paying tribute to both subjects of the book:
Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, hailed for his 30-year impact on African cinema, and
Godson Osarenren, praised for bridging visual culture and literature through biography and ekphrasis.
Speaking at the event, guests commended the author for documenting the life of Imasuen with artistic depth and historical precision. The book was described as “a moving cinematic journey narrated through poetry, memory, and history.”
In his remarks, Godson Osarenren expressed that A Trip in Motion is not merely a biography but “a creative compass for emerging filmmakers, a tribute to resilience, and a testament to the transformative power of storytelling.”
The night featured readings from the book, conversations with industry icons, a visual tribute to Imasuen’s filmography, and affirmations of the need to preserve creative legacies through literature.
With the launch of A Trip in Motion, Godson Osarenren further cements his place as one of Nigeria’s leading literary voices, a writer who continues to link poetry to cinema, history to memory, and art to national identity.
