Prof. Sebastian Hon (SAN), Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate for 2027 election in Benue, says God called him to contest the election to address the state’s myriads of challenges.
Hon stated this in an interview with the news reporters on Wednesday in Gboko.
He added that his primary objective was to address the economic and security challenges bedevilling the state.
He said that God had prepared him through his 35 years at the Bar and 18 years as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to serve the state.
“I was asked by God to contest, and God knows why He asked me because He has been preparing me for more than 30 years,” he said.
The senior advocate said that the Holy Spirit also directed him against joining some other political parties and instead settled him in the SDP.
According to him, the party has no internal crisis and has rekindled memories of the era when it produced former governor Moses Adasu and former senate president Iyorchia Ayu.
He said that the SDP was enjoying growing grassroots support from voters dissatisfied with both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP.
He described Benue as economically distressed, blaming poverty, unemployment and poor governance on the state’s challenges.
Hon pledged to revive the economy through Public Private Partnerships (PPP) to attract local and foreign investors, and adopt the Build Operate-Transfer (BOT) model to establish industries capable of creating jobs.
He also promised to subsidise agriculture, expand scholarship opportunities in critical fields, improve rural and urban infrastructure and implement policies aimed at reducing poverty.
On insecurity, the governorship candidate said that restoring security would be one of his administration’s top priorities.
“I will confront insecurity head-on. I will use every legitimate means to defend our people, reclaim lost communities and ensure farmers return safely to their homes and farms,” he said.
