In a decisive move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) has officially endorsed Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Chairman of the GAC, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, following a high-level consultative meeting held in Marina.
The GAC, which serves as the highest advisory body of the Lagos APC, expressed total confidence in Dr. Hamzat’s leadership and his commitment to the state’s continuity agenda.
To demonstrate their unwavering support, Prince Olusi revealed that council members have collectively resolved to fund the purchase of the Deputy Governor’s expression of interest and nomination forms.
“This decision reflects the council’s collective trust in Dr. Hamzat’s capacity to lead and sustain the progress of our great state,” Olusi stated.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was present at the meeting, confirmed that logistical arrangements for the nomination forms are already underway.
He disclosed that a representative has been dispatched to the APC National Headquarters in Abuja to secure the documents.
Checks by NewsDirect revealed that Hon.James Faleke was designated by the body to purchase the forms in Abuja.
The Governor also applauded the unity within the party, noting that the voluntary contributions from GAC members to facilitate the purchase of the forms serve as a powerful signal of internal cohesion.
With the APC presidential primary recently rescheduled for May 23, the endorsement of Hamzat effectively streamlines the party’s focus in Lagos, positioning the Deputy Governor as the frontrunner to succeed Governor Sanwo-Olu.
