Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State has, in recent times, become a theatre of horrors, as Fulani Jihadists seem to have marked out communities in the local government for shooting practice.
This time, it was Ikpele Community that was at the receiving end of the bloodbath that ensued on August 5, 2025.
According to an anonymous eyewitness who was hiding while the carnage unfolded, the bloodthirsty Jihadists, numbering about 50 on motorcycles, stormed the community around 2:00 am.
They announced their arrival with bloodcurdling “Allahu Akbar!” chants, shooting at any moving object on sight. Indigenes were hacked down in large numbers, among whom was the aged father of a local evangelist, Mr. Osadiaye Godson Uhunamure, who had only recently returned from a two-year missionary trip to Liberia.
The eyewitness informed newsmen that Mr. Osadiaye Godson Uhunamure, his mother, and his younger sister were in his church, the Christ Emblem Bible Church, located near his family house engaging in a night vigil when the Jihadists surrounded their home, broke in, and shot and killed his father, Pa. Jonathan Uhunamure, on the spot.
However, fortune smiled on Mr. Osadiaye Godson Uhunamure, his mother, and his sister.
They managed to sneak out of the back door of the church and flee into the bush. Their whereabouts, at the time of filing this report, remain unknown.
The violence being wreaked by Fulani Jihadists in the North-Central part of Nigeria has continued unchecked, as the security architecture of the country appears helpless to stem the tide.
