Rivers state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has cautioned the children of the late King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, the Amanyanabo of Opobo, against the temptation of fighting over assets, stressing that such disputes are a recipe for family chaos.
Speaking during the funeral service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Opobo Town, the Governor urged the royal family to focus on personal success rather than dissipating energy on inherited wealth.
He argued that fighting over assets is needless, as such conflicts only create division while the assets themselves depreciate over time.
“What you inherit are assets; you do not inherit success. You must work for your own success,” the Governor stated, noting that the late King was a man of peace who would be sorrowed by family disarray.
Describing the monarch as a man of class and dignity, Governor Fubara highlighted that King Dandeson’s 83-year life was one of significant achievement, during which the kingdom produced both a Governor and a Deputy Governor.
The Governor charged the Amanyanabo-elect to chart a new course for the kingdom through wisdom and pragmatism rather than merely attempting to fill the shoes of his predecessor.
During the sermon, Bishop Emmanuel Oko Jaja reflected on the transient nature of life, enjoining the congregation to avoid primitive acquisition of wealth, reminding them that ultimate authority rests with God.
