The Delta State Command of the Federal Road safety Corps (FRSC), on Monday urged motorists to ensure a proper registration of their plate numbers, so as to avoid penalties by law enforcement officers.

The state’s Corps Commander and acting Head of Section (HOS) Operations Department, Christopher Kuje, made this known in Asaba, during Inauguration of a special patrol operation, tagged “Operation Guduma”

The report states that the scheme is aimed at strengthening enforcement against traffic offences in the country

The scheme also aims at checking practices such as mix-loading, as well as the movement of vehicles carrying unlatched containers capable of causing hazards on the highways.

Kuje urged motorists and transport operators to obey traffic regulations and avoid dangerous practices that endangers lives and property.

“When you say “operation guduma” it is as good as saying operation hammer, and the operation is focused on fake diplomatic plate numbers, fake plate numbers and overloading.

“It is very important because fake diplomatic plate numbers have really created security problems in this country and it is also causing serious security concerns.

“Any number that is not properly registered is called a fake number and from the complaints we received, these diplomats have discovered that their plate numbers are being duplicated by some individuals,” he said

He noted that often times, individuals who belong to some associations, decide on their own, to get artists who customize their names on their plate numbers.

Kuje consequently, urged motorists to visit the Board of Internal Revenue for payment of the prescribed fees, as well as adhere to all lawful procedures in a bid to get a registered plate numbers.

“The process is well arranged and organised; If your vehicle is not properly registered and it is stolen, that is the end of it,” he said.
