A French soldier has been killed and three others wounded after peacekeeping troops came under attack in southern Lebanon, raising fresh concerns over security in the volatile region.
Pres. Emmanuel Macron said initial findings point to Hezbollah as being responsible for the incident. He extended condolences to the family of the fallen soldier and expressed support for those injured.
Macron also urged Lebanese authorities to carry out a swift investigation and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
In response, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has directed security agencies to launch an immediate probe into the attack.
The incident underscores the fragile security situation in southern Lebanon, where international peacekeeping forces continue to operate under persistent tension linked to regional conflicts.
Analysts note that such attacks could heighten diplomatic strain and raise questions about the safety of peacekeeping missions in the area, particularly as cross-border tensions and internal dynamics remain unresolved.
