Flooding triggered by overflowing rivers has destroyed vast rice farmlands in Yauri, Shanga, and Ngaski local government areas of Kebbi State.
The incident, which affected multiple communities within the Yauri Emirate, has left farmers counting losses as floodwaters submerged their fields. Villages hit by the disaster include Kwanji, Gebbe, Nasara, Ishe, Tungan Hakimi Mamuda, Buro, and Kurdoso.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi, a resident of the area, Ahmed Sarkin Yaki, attributed the flooding to the overflow of nearby rivers such as Dolekaina, Jega, and Tondi Gada.
“We suspect this overflow of water came from Dolekaina, Jega and Tondi Gada,” he said.
He appealed to the local government authorities in Yauri, Shanga, and Ngaski to urgently assist affected farmers and mitigate the impact of the disaster on the communities.
