A Tuesday morning fire that threatened to level an entire neighborhood in Tumfure Quarters was narrowly averted thanks to the professionalism and speed of the Federal Fire Service.
The blaze ripped through a two-bedroom flat and a three-bedroom detached residence, turning furniture to ash and sending thick smoke across the residential area.
ASF Bashir Muazu, the spokesperson for the Gombe State Command, confirmed that his team hit the scene within minutes of the distress call. Their tactical approach paid off, as they successfully “caged” the fire within the affected buildings, preventing a domino effect that could have swallowed adjacent homes.
While the loss is estimated at roughly ₦5 million, the quick-acting crew managed to rescue property valued at a staggering ₦25 million.
The operation was a masterclass in inter-agency teamwork, with the Gombe State Fire Service and the Tumfure Divisional Police Station providing the muscle and security needed to keep the site safe.
Miraculously, no casualties were reported, though the incident serves as a sobering reminder of the current fire season risks. This close call follows a devastating blaze at Kano’s popular Singa Market just yesterday, signaling a spike in fire-related emergencies across the region.
Authorities are now urging residents to treat electrical safety like a priority rather than an afterthought. Muazu emphasized that keeping basic firefighting gear nearby and routinely checking wiring is the only way to stay ahead of an unpredictable spark.
