A fire outbreak on Cele-Egbe Bridge in Lagos on Saturday destroyed a T4 vehicle, leaving it completely burnt and reduced to a charred carcass.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle suddenly went up in flames while in motion, triggering panic among motorists and passersby on the busy corridor. The driver and other occupants, however, escaped unhurt before the fire intensified.

Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, were promptly alerted and deployed to the scene to contain the blaze. Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority also arrived swiftly to cordon off the affected area and manage traffic to prevent further risk.

Their intervention ensured that traffic flow along the bridge remained largely uninterrupted despite the severity of the incident.

Although the exact cause of the fire had yet to be determined as of press time, preliminary indications suggest possible mechanical or electrical faults, factors commonly associated with vehicle fire incidents across Lagos.

Similar incidents have been recorded on major bridges in the state, including the Ojota and Otedola axes, where prompt response by LASTMA and fire service officials helped avert casualties and extensive damage.

Authorities have consistently urged motorists to prioritise routine vehicle maintenance, noting that such measures can help prevent recurring incidents. Road users were also advised to remain cautious, adhere to traffic regulations, and promptly report emergencies to relevant agencies to ensure swift intervention.
