FG sues for peace in Dangote, NUPENG dispute

10 Sept 2025

The Federal Government has called on the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the management of the Dangote Group to pursue a peaceful resolution to their ongoing industrial dispute.

The government stressed that resolving the matter is essential to safeguarding national peace and economic stability.

The appeal was made on Monday by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, during a conciliatory meeting held at the ministry’s conference room.

The Minister noted that the oil sector is too crucial to the nation’s economy to be undermined by conflict.

“We are here to try and reconcile our labour unions in the oil industry and the employers in the Dangote Group,” Dingyadi stated.

He voiced optimism that the issues could be resolved and encouraged both parties to remain open-minded and peaceful in their engagements.

“What we are discussing today is very important to the peace and stability of the country and our economy,” he added.

The Minister appealed to both sides to listen attentively to one another’s positions in order to reach a fair and timely agreement, while reiterating the government’s determination to facilitate a lasting resolution.
