The Federal Government has reiterated its determination to ensure the timely completion of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project, describing it as the backbone of Nigeria’s future economic prosperity and industrial resurgence.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, gave this assurance on Thursday during an inspection tour of “Kilometre Zero,” the starting point of the massive gas infrastructure project.
Accompanied by the top management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, led by the Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, and the Executive Vice President (Gas, Power, and New Energy), Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, the Minister assessed the pace of work and expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far.
Speaking at the site, Minister Ekpo commended the NNPC Limited and its project partners for their dedication.
He noted that the pipeline is not merely an engineering feat but a critical vehicle for national development.
“Upon completion, this pipeline network will deliver massive economic opportunities, significantly boost power supply, and drive national industrialisation,” Ekpo stated. “We are ushering in a new era of energy and economic security for Nigeria, and this project is central to that vision.”
Also speaking, the GCEO of NNPC Limited, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, linked the project to the broader narrative of Nigeria’s development.
He reflected on the country’s industrial heritage and projected a future where gas serves as the primary catalyst for economic recovery.
“The AKK Pipeline represents a bridge to our future,” Ojulari said. “It reflects our drive towards a resurgence powered by gas as a transition fuel. This project is tangible proof of our commitment to national development and energy security.”
The visit to the project’s starting point serves to reinforce the collaboration between the Federal Government and the national oil company in delivering the project on schedule.
The AKK pipeline is expected to transport natural gas from Ajaokuta, in Kogi State, through Kaduna and Kano states, unlocking the economic potential of the northern region and feeding power plants and industries along its corridor.
