The federal government through the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has initiated moves to link health insurance coverage with the database registered vehicle number plates.

This was revealed in a statement on Wednesday by the NHIA.

According to the statement, the NHIA held a strategic meeting with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) recently.

The statement revealed that a key proposal at the meeting was the integration of health insurance coverage with the FRSC’s vehicle database.

The initiative is designed to ensure that victims of road accidents can receive immediate medical attention without facing financial barriers at the point of care.

The discussions also highlighted FRSC’s ongoing efforts in emergency response services, as well as challenges in strengthening coordination between road safety operations and healthcare delivery systems in Nigeria.

Both agencies further considered the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the partnership, alongside wider engagement with transport unions to support inclusion in health insurance schemes.

The meeting restated NHIA’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with key institutions in order to expand health insurance coverage, improve emergency care response, and enhance overall health outcomes for Nigerians.
