The Presidential Communications Team, led by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga has commenced an extensive inspection tour of major federal infrastructure projects across the North-West geopolitical zone on Thursday.
The tour, conducted in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, highlighted the successful introduction of concrete pavement technology on the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Super Highway.
The delegation began its assessment with the fully completed concrete expressway stretching from Zuba in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Jere in Kaduna State.
This segment, designated as Section One, represents a strategic shift by the Tinubu administration from traditional asphalt to reinforced concrete, a move aimed at enhancing road durability and reducing long-term maintenance costs.
During the inspection, Mr. Onanuga emphasized the importance of government transparency and accountability.
He noted that the tour serves to verify contractors’ adherence to specifications and to document progress for public awareness.
“It is incredible that some would suggest the President has not done anything. You have seen for yourselves the scale of work currently underway, not just on roads, but across various sectors over the last two years and seven months,” Onanuga remarked.
Engr. Chukwuma Kalu, the Resident Engineer from the Federal Ministry of Works, reported that 88 kilometers of concrete pavement have been completed from the Zuba axis toward Jere, while 21 kilometers have been laid on the inbound section from Kaduna.
The project has also served as a significant driver for local employment. Mr. Robert Turner, Senior Project Manager at Infiouest International, revealed that the firm has engaged over 1,000 Nigerians including engineers, machine operators, and laborers from host communities.
Turner praised the security support provided by the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Nigerian Army, noting that strong community cooperation has prevented major security threats.
According to the project handlers, Section One reached its completion target today, while Section Two is slated for completion by November 2026. To meet these deadlines, crews are reportedly working day and night, laying between 600 and 700 meters of concrete pavement every 24 hours.
Local residents and commuters expressed high levels of satisfaction with the new infrastructure. Many travelers noted that the concrete technology is a long-awaited intervention capable of withstanding the heavy vehicular traffic typical of the North-West corridor.
The road is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges and boost economic activity by providing a more reliable link between the FCT and Northern Nigeria.
