In a major step toward modernizing the nation’s schooling system, the Federal Government has launched the nationwide expansion of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Teacher Capacity Development Programme across all Federal Unity Colleges.

Implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education’s Education Support Services Department alongside ICEDT Consult Limited, the initiative follows a successful pilot phase conducted across six Federal Unity Colleges representing each geopolitical zone.

The program focuses on strengthening digital competencies, refining lesson preparation, enriching classroom instruction, and fostering the ethical application of AI technology in learning environments.

During the signing of the Terms of Reference in Abuja, the Director of Education Support Services, Mr. Gabriel O. Amudipe, highlighted the project as a critical investment in teacher professional development.

He called on all involved parties to uphold rigorous standards and ensure thorough quality assurance throughout the implementation phase.

Targeting nearly 11,700 educators, the project aims to elevate instructional standards, boost student achievement, and equip learners with essential 21st-century digital skills, reflecting the government’s broader commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda to deliver modern, technology-driven education.
