The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its strategic partnership with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during a send-off dinner organized in honor of the Fund’s outgoing Resident Representative, Dr. Christian Ebeke.
Speaking at the event in Abuja, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, praised Ebeke for his professionalism, technical expertise, and constructive involvement during a crucial phase of Nigeria’s macroeconomic transition.
He noted that Ebeke’s three-year tenure coincided with structural economic reforms focused on fiscal stability, domestic revenue mobilization, foreign exchange management, and debt sustainability.
Echoing similar sentiments, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Yemi Cardoso, commended the outgoing envoy for maintaining open dialogue and bringing a nuanced understanding of Nigeria’s economic environment to every engagement.
Similarly, the Director of the International Economic Relations Department, Stanley George, noted that the relationship between Nigeria and the IMF had significantly strengthened under Ebeke’s tenure.
In his response, Dr. Ebeke expressed gratitude to Nigerian authorities, development partners, and private sector stakeholders.
Reflecting on his assignment, he described his time in the country as professionally enriching and expressed strong confidence in Nigeria’s long-term growth trajectory, citing the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of its citizens.
The farewell event brought together several high-ranking officials, including the Director-General of the Debt Management Office, Mrs. Patience Oniha, and the Statistician-General of the Federation, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, alongside members of the diplomatic corps and key heads of government agencies.
